On Friday January 21st at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Rochelle Police Department received a call of a disturbance (loud music) in the 100 block of South 6th Street. Officers had been advised the music was coming from a vehicle parked in the lot behind 590 1st Avenue. Upon arrival to the area, responding officers made contact with an individual inside the vehicle. Officers were able to see a firearm inside the vehicle in plain view. At this time officers took the subject, James N. Salazar, 20, of Rochelle, into custody. Mr. Salazar was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon (class 2 felony based on prior convictions), defacing identification marks on a firearm (class 3 felony), and aggravated battery (class 2 felony). He was transported to the Ogle County Jail in lieu of bond.
