On Thursday August 25th at 0231 a.m. the Rochelle Police Department received a 911 call from the Road Ranger located at 1101 N. 7th Street. The caller advised he had been robbed and the offender fled south from the location. The employee advised responding officers that the offender was a male white in his mid 30’s, 180-210 pounds, wearing a red “hoodie”, blue jeans, and sunglasses with a purple bandana. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, he exited the store. The employee was not injured in the incident. K9 Don was deployed, and he was able to track the suspect to the area of 1251 Short Court, but the individual was not located.

On Monday August 8th at 0406 a.m. the Rochelle Police Department received a call from the Baymont Inn. The caller advised he had been robbed at gunpoint and tied up by two subjects wearing all black. The caller said the two offenders were African American, and one of them displayed a silver handgun. The caller also said the offenders wore masks and left the scene on foot. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the scene.

On Sunday July 24th, at 2:24 a.m. the Rochelle Police Department received a call about a burglary in progress at the Butterfly restaurant. When officers arrived on scene, a male subject exiting the restaurant with a cash register was taken into custody. The male subject, Jeremiah J. Burgess, 27, of Peoria, was also wanted on a Peoria County warrant for failing to appear for an obstructing justice charge.
After further investigation, Mr. Burgess was charged with burglary (class 2 felony) for this case. He was also with burglary (class 2 felony) for case 11-7810 which occurred at the Rochelle Country Club on July 21st, 2011. He was transported to the Ogle County Jail in lieu of bond.
All parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On Saturday July 23rd, at 11:39 p.m. the Rochelle Police Department received a burglary alarm call at Arby’s. Responding officers observed broken glass at the scene and a short time later a male was detained on S. Main Street near Avenue E. Upon further investigation the male subject, Chancellor J. Terrell, 19, Aurora, was arrested and charged with burglary (class 2 felony) as a result of this call.
In addition, Mr. Terrell was also charged with seven other burglaries (class 2 felonies) that have occurred during the past several weeks. The locations of these burglaries are as follows: Rochelle Country Club (070511), Dairy Queen (070611, and 071411), T-Byrds (070811) Ogle County Health Department (071211), Olive Branch (071211) and Salon 22 (071411).
He was transported to the Ogle County Jail in lieu of bond.
All parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On Thursday July 21st, at 6:26 a.m. the Rochelle Police Department received a 911 call from a residence at 800 Treatment Plant Road. The caller stated that there was a male subject hanging from a tree near lot #17. Officers arrived and located a deceased adult male that was hanging from a tree.
At this time the identity of the male is not being released. The Rochelle Police Department was assisted by the Rochelle Fire Department, the Ogle County Coroner’s Office and the Crime Scene Services Division of the Illinois State Police.

On Friday July 15th, at 4:58 p.m. the Rochelle Police Department received a call of a body floating in the water at the quarry located behind Do it Best Hardware. When officers arrived a deceased subject was located in the water. The subject was later identified as Jason S. Spohn, 36, of Rochelle. The Rochelle Police Department was assisted by the Rochelle Fire Department, The Ogle County Coroner’s Office, and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services.
On Monday July 18th an autopsy was conducted, and the preliminary cause of death was found to be drowning, pending the toxicology results. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

On Saturday June 18th at 9:33 p.m. the Rochelle Police Department received a call of a stabbing victim at 508 N. 2nd Street. When officers arrived they located a male subject in the front yard that had been stabbed multiple times. He was initially taken to the Rochelle Community Hospital via ambulance, but he was transferred to another hospital a short time later.
Witnesses indicated that the victim observed a group of four or five individuals spray painting the Behr Iron and Steel building. The victim told the offenders to stop what they were doing, and during the subsequent confrontation in the yard at 508 N. 2nd Street, the victim was injured. The Rochelle Police Department’s K9 unit was utilized during the investigation. The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services Division and the Rochelle Fire Department also assisted with this case.
UPDATE-On 072811 an arrest warrant was obtained in reference to this case. Detectives responded to 3532 S. Woodlawn Road and took Jeremy L. Williams (19) of Rochelle, into custody on a $250,000 warrant for Attempted First Degree Murder (2 counts, class x felony) and Aggravated Battery (2 counts, class 3 felony). He was transported to the Ogle County Jail.

On Tuesday May 10th at 7:17 p.m. the Rochelle Police Department and the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office re
ceived multiple 911 calls in reference to shots being fired in the area of 800 Treatment Plant Road in Rochelle. Initial callers reported that multiple shots were fired, and that an offender was fleeing from the scene on foot. Witnesses told officers that two occupants inside a purple Pontiac were the intended targets. Officers were not able to locate the Pontiac or the occupants, and at this time no individuals were believed to have been injured.
After further investigation, a warrant was obtained for Charles D. Chamness, 27, of Rochelle for two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm. Additional charges are expected to be filed at a later date. Mr. Chamness has not been located at this time, and anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is encouraged to call the Ogle/Lee Crimestoppers at 1-888-228-4488 (1-888-CAUGHTU), or the Rochelle Police Department at 815-562-2131.
UPDATE- On July 5th Charles Chamness was taken into custody in Princeton Illinois on a warrant obtained from this case.

On Thursday April 14th at 4:37 p.m., the Rochelle Police Department K9 unit conducted a traffic stop in the Caron Ridge parking lot. After further investigation, the driver, Abdula J. Rice, 39 of Rochelle, was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, possession of a controlled substance (class 4 felony), and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (class 3 felony). Approximately 5.7 grams of suspected cocaine was recovered during the stop, and $244.00 was seized from Mr. Rice. He was transported to the Ogle County Jail in lieu of bond.

On Saturday March 26th, the Rochelle Police Department was contacted by medical personnel re
garding a battery victim. addition to a defensive stab wounds. After conducting an initial investigation into this incident, officers located the alleged offender in this incident. Anacleto Resendez Jr., 32, of Rochelle was taken into custody without incident at the intersection of Lincoln Highway and Lincoln Avenue. He is charged with Aggravated Battery and Domestic Battery (felony). He was taken to the Ogle County Jail where his bond was set at $150,000. Mr. Resendez is also on parole through the state of Missouri.
