Spring Reminders -- Yards, Garage Sales, & Chickens

Written by  Jennifer Thompson

The City of Rochelle would like to remind property owners, including owners of rental property or vacant lots, that local ordinances require lawn maintenance. Any grass or weeds exceeding eight inches in height are considered a nuisance and will be cited by the City of Rochelle’s property maintenance inspector.

Interested in hosting a garage sale? Each resident is permitted to have up to three garage sales each year, for three consecutive days at a time and one month apart. Signs may be placed on private property. Please do not place signs in the parkway, on street signs or on utility poles.

We also remind the community that chickens are not allowed to be kept inside the City limits.

At this time of year, the City receives a large number of complaints regarding such lawn maintenance. Once the property is viewed by staff, a citation will be issued. Compliance with the citation is requested within seven days. Failure to comply can result in a court appearance and fines.
