On Wednesday June 11, 2008 18 members fo the Rochelle Police Department along with 3 family members particpated in, or assisted with the 2008 Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. Each year officers volunteer to run, in an effort to raise funds to support the Illinois Special Olympics.

Anyone interested in dontating to the Special Olympics can stop by the Rochelle Police Department and leave dontation.

Members of Rochelle PD took the handoff of the torch on the north side of town, as it was handed off by members of the Winnebago Sheriffs Department, and Rockford Police Department.

The Rochelle portion of the run measures approximately four miles, starting at the bridge on 251 north, and ending at the Rochelle Municiapl Airport.
