On Wednesday June 10, 2009 23 members of the Rochelle Police Department along with 3 family members particpated in, or assisted with the 2009 Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. Each year officers volunteer to run, in an effort to raise funds to support the Illinois Special Olympics.

Anyone interested in donating to the Special Olympics can stop by the Rochelle Police Department and make a donation.

Members of Rochelle PD took the handoff of the torch on the north side of town, as it was handed off by members of the Winnebago Sheriffs Department, and Rockford Police Department.

The Rochelle portion of the run measures approximately 4.3 miles, this year it started at Twombly Road and ended at the Rochelle Municiapl Airport.

Rochelle officers prepare for the start.

The run starts with Officer Hansmann carrying the torch.

Officers make their way through the construction at Flagg and 251.

The Krahenbuhl crew cheers the runners on!

Officer Rodabaugh takes over the torch and Lucas Milburn joins the run.

Running across the overpass is always a test of endurance.

After crossing the overpass a short break was taken to let traffic pass and runners switch out.

The runners take to the street once again.

The final four finish up, followed by a line of traffic.
