The Rochelle Police Department has been participating in the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, for over 20 years. Each year officers volunteer their time to run in the event, and gather donations for the Special Olympics.
Law Enforcement Officers from all over the state run the various legs of the race, as the torch is handed from one jurisdiction to another.

Members of the Rochelle Police Department participating in the 2006 Torch Run, accept the torch from Winnebago Officers at the north edge of Rochelle.

Offiicer Gilliam, Officer Mundt and Deputy Chief Higby are seen here.

With the Rochelle leg of the race being approximately 5 miles long, officers will take turns running different sections of the race as it crosses town. Here Sgt. Bergeron joins Officer Gilliam, Officer Mundt and Deputy Chief Higby.

To ensure the safety of the runners a Rochelle Police squad car leads the way.

As officers switch off Detective Sgt. Leininger goes it alone.

Things tend to spread out near the end.
Here Officer Anderson, newly hired in 2006, takes on her first Torch Run.

A group photo is taken at Koritz Field, where the Rochelle leg of the run concludes.

RPD runners opt for a ride back to the station, after a job well done.
