| (ROCKFORD) The U.S. House and Senate this week passed legislation that includes $250,000 in federal funds to help extend Jack Dame Road in Rochelle. The project will provide a direct connection from Route 38 to the Union Pacific intermodal hub. The President has stated he will sign the bill into law within the next two weeks.
The funding was included in the FY 2008 Omnibus appropriations bill Congress approved this week. The $15 million project will initially extend Jack Dame Road from Intermodal Drive to First Avenue. The next phase calls for an overpass over the Union Pacific railroad tracks and will connect Jack Dame Road with Route 38.
“This is a critical project that will improve public safety, spur economic development, and create jobs in Rochelle and throughout the region,” Manzullo said. “Extending Jack Dame Road will allow trucks to access the intermodal hub directly from Route 38 without having to drive past schools and parks. In addition, it will link industrial areas in the city directly to the Union Pacific hub, encouraging more industries to locate in Rochelle.”
