| Rochelle, IL – The leaves are changing and beginning to fall and this year, the City of Rochelle would like to encourage all residents to dispose of your leaves and yard waste in the most “green” way possible.
There are several “green” means of disposing of lawn waste. Mowing leaves into small pieces and letting them lie on the lawn is the easiest way to dispose of leaves. Raking leaves around your shrubbery or spading them into your garden is another way to dispose of them. Burning leaves is not recommended as they can be a safety hazard or health irritant. Burning piles must never be left unattended or placed in the street.
Yard waste recycling is another great way to dispose of your fall leaves. All yard waste such as grass, leaves, flowers, weeds, and brush are recyclable. Yard wastes may be placed in a maximum size container of 32 gallons weighing less than 50 pounds and placed at the curb by 5:00 a.m. the morning of pickup. Although yard waste is also accepted in clear plastic bags, the use of reusable containers prevents the empty bags from blowing around the neighborhoods and ultimately ending up in the landfill.
Large piles of brush that are too large for yard waste recycling, will be picked up once a month by the City of Rochelle Street Division. All brush bundles must be tied together in lengths of 5 feet or less with individual limbs not to exceed 6 inches in diameter. The City’s brush program is intended for the disposal of limbs and branches removed by the property owner. Brush should be placed curbside in piles not exceeding 8 feet in length. Limbs larger than 6 to 8 inches in diameter should be in a separate pile cut for crews to safely handle. Brush should be placed at the curb by 5:00 a.m. for pickup on the third Monday of the month, March through November. Brush may be chipped or tractor loaded and wood chips are available free of charge to all Rochelle residents. Call the City of Rochelle Street Division at 562-2494 with questions regarding removal of large amounts of brush, scheduling a pickup, or if you would like wood chips.
