1st Avenue and Poplar Street Closure October 8th through the 19th , 2015

1st Avenue and Poplar Street Closure October 8th through the 19th , 2015

City Engineer, Sam Tesreau, has announced that 1st Avenue, from the BNSF Railroad crossing west to Poplar Street and including the entire section of Poplar Street to Ave E, will be closed to through traffic beginning Thursday October 8th at 6 am. The closure is necessary to construct new supplementary safety measures for the Rochelle Railroad Quiet Zone projects including concrete curb medians, storm sewer improvements and associated pavement removal and replacement. Martin and Company, the City of Rochelle’s contractor, will be performing the work.

There will be no access to or from Avenue E, via Poplar Street or 1st Avenue, for the duration of the project. However, Avenue E will be accessible from South Main Street for local traffic. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route and avoid the area if possible. NO trucks will be allowed to use the 2nd Street bridge over the Kyte River as is posted as such.

All other through traffic along 1st Avenue will be detoured as follows:

Westbound through traffic will be detoured from 1st Avenue, south along Caron Road to Steam Plant Road, west along Steam Plant Road to S. Main Street, north on S. Main Street to 1st Avenue.

Eastbound through traffic will be detoured from 1st Avenue, south along S. Main Street to Steam Plant Road, east along Steam Plant Road to Caron Road, north on Caron Road to 1st Avenue.

Work is expected to be substantially complete by 4 pm on October 19th and is subject to weather. Advance warning, detour and other temporary traffic control devices will be posted near the affected area. Please use caution while traveling in this area and pay special attention to the advanced warning signage, road closed signage and other temporary traffic control devices within or in advance of the work zone. We appreciate your patience during this project.
