Weather permitting, Rochelle Municipal Utilities will begin their annual hydrant flushing project July 22. All 950 hydrants in the City of Rochelle will be flushed beginning near RTHS and moving south as the project progresses. The fire hydrants are opened and allowed to run in an effort to circulate water in the underground water mains. It will take approximately 2-3 months to complete the entire system. RMU Water Operators will be flushing the hydrants on Monday through Friday each week from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
RMU reminds water service customers that they may experience some discoloration in the water supply for a short period of time following the work. We advise customers to open cold water faucets for several minutes until the water becomes clear to ensure all of the discoloration has been removed. Customers are reminded not to launder clothing in water that has been discolored, since the clothing may become stained.
