City Making Strides with Inclusivity

As part of the City of Rochelle’s Strategic Goals implemented earlier this year, Staff has continued a mission to create a more inclusive community and government to be more representative of our community.

With the launch of the City’s new website a tool was added for ease of translation into multiple languages.  In the top right-hand corner of any page (except for pdf documents) of the site, visitors may select from a dropdown of languages.  Using google translate, the site may be translated into just over 100 different languages.

This fall, the City Clerk’s Office recodified the municipal codebook through MuniCode, a service that publishes legal documents for municipalities throughout the US.  Through the addition of the recodified codebook, a language translator was added.  The codebook also includes a search feature which makes finding specific areas of the codebook easy for visitors to our site.

“From the addition of RoseMary Huéramo, our bilingual Deputy City Clerk to the upgrades in our website, we are proud of our changes here at City Hall to be more accessible to all residents of Rochelle,” said City Clerk Sue Messer.

“Our diverse community is an opportunity for us to make more connections and to build a stronger sense of community pride – something we are dedicated to making happen,” said City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh.
