City Offers Residents Advice on Door-to-Door Solicitation

It’s that time of year again when we typically see an increase of peddlers/solicitors going door-to-door without permits from the City. The City of Rochelle would like to offer some words of advice regarding solicitations.

Please be safe and do not let anyone into your home unless you know them. If registered with the City (which is legally a must), the solicitor will have a certificate plus be wearing a photo ID badge with the City logo on it. If a solicitor is selling food, they must also have an Ogle County Health Department Permit. If a solicitor visits your home without these items, simply turn them away and call the Rochelle Police Department (815-562-2131) or City Clerk’s Office (815-561-2002). Peddlers are not allowed to visit homes with a “No Solicitors” sticker on their door. To obtain a “No Solicitors” sticker, visit City Hall at 420 North Sixth Street.

Do not sign a contract until you have had time to check into the business or discuss the contract with your attorney. If the firm is legitimate, they will return for your business. Even though a solicitor is registered with the City of Rochelle, it does not guarantee that they are selling a quality product.
