Mayor Chet Olson, City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh and City Clerk Sue Messer met with elected officials in Springfield today to share issues and concerns that affect both Rochelle’s local government and our citizens as part of the Illinois Municipal League’s Annual Lobby Day.
IML hosts Lobby Day annually to give municipalities a voice in Springfield. Issues discussed this year were related to transportation, escalating pension costs, home rule and unfunded mandates.
The group began the day with the Illinois Municipal League Legislative Briefing featuring IML President Mark Eckert, Deputy Governor Leslie Munger, Illinois Department of Transportation Secretary Randall Blankenhorn, Senate President John Cullerton, Representative Anthony DeLuca, House Cities and Villages Committee and Senate Republican Leader Bill Brady. Mayor Olson and City Manager Fiegenschuh met with Senator Bivins, Representative Demmer and IML Director Brad Cole. They also attended a Meet & Greet with Senator Hastings. City Clerk Messer attended a meeting with Deputy Governor Leslie Munger and a group representing the Municipal Clerks of Illinois. Munger presented a proclamation for Clerk’s Week and Messer discussed unfunded mandates, pension reform and home rule with her.
