City Reminds Residents to Use Caution with Peddlers and Solicitors

It’s early in the season but already we have had solicitors going door-to-door without proper City Permits. As the weather gets better, more and more solicitors will be coming to Rochelle. Do not let anyone into your home unless you know them. If registered with the City, the solicitor will have a certificate displaying the City Clerk’s signature as well as the City badge. If a solicitor is selling food, they must have an Ogle County Health Department Permit. If a solicitor visits your home without these items, simply turn them away and call the Rochelle Police Department (815-562-2131) or City Clerk’s Office (815-561-2002). Peddlers are not allowed to visit homes with a “No Solicitors” sticker on their door. To obtain a “No Solicitors” sticker, visit City Hall at 420 North Sixth Street.

Do not sign a contract until you have had time to check into the business or discuss the contract with your attorney. If the firm is legitimate, they will return for your business. Even though a solicitor is registered with the City of Rochelle, it does not guarantee that they are selling a quality product.
