Hunter Safety

Each year the Rochelle Police Department, in cooperation with the Department of Natural Resources, hosts a Hunter Education Course. The course is comprised of three days of classroom training.

Rochelle Police personnel are assisted by other area instructors in teaching the class.

The purpose of the course is to promote responsible hunter conduct, discuss the importance of wildlife management laws and regulations, and to encourage the safe handling of firearms and ammunition.

Through hunter education students obtain a better understanding of their obligation to the resource, the land owner, and other hunters and to themselves. Hunter education benefits inexperienced hunters and is an excellent refresher course for anyone who enjoys hunting.

There is no charge for the course. All interested persons are welcomed and parents are encouraged to attend with their children. Seating is limited to 35 people. You may inquire about class dates and register by calling the Rochelle Police Department at (815)562-2131.
