The City of Rochelle is pleased to announce the completion of the Classroom Portion of Paramedic Training for Ken Dougherty, Ryan Brown and Curt Helgren.
Paramedic Training Courses are held through the OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. The course consists of 450 hours of classroom work which was completed on December 18. In order to qualify to sit for the State of Illinois Paramedic exam, each candidate must also complete a minimum of 480 additional hours of clinical work. These hours involve working in several areas of the hospital including the Emergency Room, Operating Room, Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and the Catheterization Lab. Also included in their clinical hours are a minimum of 250 hours working on an ambulance under the supervision of a field preceptor. Once each of these requirements is met, students must receive a letter of recommendation from their field preceptor followed by a meeting with their Medical Director, who is the Physician that oversees the course, and then he or she gives approval for the student to sit for the state test. Each student has one year from the completion of their classroom work to complete all clinical requirements and successfully pass the state exam.
