          Celebrating Another Decade of Success

Rochelle, IL …“Celebrating Another Decade of Success” was the theme for The Greater Rochelle Economic Development Corporation’s Annual Dinner which was held on Wednesday evening at the banquet center in the Holcomb State Bank in Rochelle. Business and community leaders from across the region came together to recognize the more than 20 businesses and industries that have been built and expanded in Rochelle over the past decade. Doug Zuehl, President of the Greater Rochelle Economic Development Board of Directors stated: “Rochelle is quickly becoming the center of industrial development in northern Illinois and we are just getting started!”. Since 2003 when the Union Pacific Railroad opened their Global III Intermodal Park, the City of Rochelle has experienced unprecedented growth.” Large investments have been made in public infrastructure which has in turn brought a lot of new jobs to Rochelle” said City Manager Dave Plyman. The City has upgraded water, sewer, power, fiber optic, natural gas, and storm sewer systems, added more than 5 miles of track to the City of Rochelle Railroad, and invested more than $25M in building and improving roads and bridges all of which has stimulated industrial development. Mayor Chet Olson was on hand for the celebration and stated, “We are proud of our community and the progress we have made over the past 10 years in creating jobs for citizens of Rochelle as well as citizens from all across northern Illinois”.

Since 2003 the businesses and industries who have come to Rochelle have invested more than $1.2 Billion, created more than 1200 jobs and built over 3.5 million square feet of industrial space. Economic Development Director Jason Anderson said “We recognized a need to diversify our economy, so along with expanding our manufacturing and logistics base, we developed the Rochelle Business and Technology Park. Today we have more than 100 people working in new technology driven occupations”.

During the program the GREDCO Board of Directors recognized 12 companies who received the “Excellence in Development Award”. Recipients of the award were:

Jim Tolan, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Holcomb State Bank was recognized by the GREDCO Board of Directors for his service on the board over the past 15 years. Illinois State Representative, Bob Pritchard made closing remarks by congratulating GREDCO and the City of Rochelle for their extraordinary efforts in continuing to bring economic opportunities to the region.
