Residents in the Meadowbrook Subdivision as well as those in the North 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th Street areas will see the RMU Contractor, Visu-Sewer, Inc. in the area beginning Monday November 4th for a manhole lining project. The project is expected to last approximately three weeks.
Phase I of the project is nearly complete, with sewer lines being reconstructed within the existing sewer. Phase II will consist of manhole lining and sewer service grouting. Service grouting includes the injection of grout around the sewer service connection to create a watertight seal and to prevent any groundwater from leaking into the sewer at the point of connection.
Customer sewer service may be impacted during service grouting. During this time, the sewer connections from houses will be temporarily sealed off. Consequently, you will be asked to make limited use of toilet and shower facilities and refrain from running laundry or dishwashers.
The manhole rehabilitation work may create an odor. Although a nuisance, the odor registers at levels significantly lower than limits deemed safe by OSHA and NIOSH. To lessen the possibility of odors entering your residence, pour one gallon of water in each floor drain, sink trap, bathtub and shower. The water is necessary to seal the plumbing traps to prevent odors and gasses from backing up.
A door hanger will be posted at each affected residence informing the occupant of the time and date the work will be performed and the limited water use timeline.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause and will work to minimize the disruption to the public.
