National Work Zone Awareness Week

National Work Zone Awareness Week

As the highway construction season is about to be in full swing, it’s that time of year to remind everyone to be safe. This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week and the message from the FHWA is “Don’t Be That Driver!”. In addition to keeping our workers safe, our industry must continually remind all drivers to be prepared.

Tips for driving safely in Work Zones:

• Don’t text or talk on the phone and avoid taking your hands off the wheel.
• Watch for speed limit reductions, narrowing lanes, changing traffic patterns and—most importantly—highway workers.
• Keep a safe distance on all sides of your vehicles and maintain a safe following distance. Rear-end collisions are the most common type of work zone crash.

• Respect the flaggers and obey their guidance.
• Expect delays and allow extra travel time to travel through work zones.
• Be patient and calm. Remember that the construction crews are working to make the road better for you.
