City Engineer, Sam Tesreau, has announced that N. Main Street, from 1st Avenue north to Cherry Avenue, will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday October 26th at 6 am. The closure is necessary to construct new supplementary safety measures for the Rochelle Railroad Quiet Zone project including concrete curb medians, storm sewer improvements and associated pavement removal and replacement. Martin and Company, the City of Rochelle’s contractor, will be performing the work.
There will be no access to or from 2nd Avenue, via N. Main Street, for the duration of the project. However, 2nd Avenue and the intersection of N. Main Street/2nd Avenue, will be accessible from Washington St. for local traffic. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route and avoid the area if possible.
All other through traffic along N. Main Street will be detoured as follows:
Southbound through traffic will be detoured from N. Main Street, west along 4th Ave, south along Washington St. to 1st Ave, east on 1st Avenue to N. Main Street.
Northbound through traffic will be detoured from N. Main Street, west along 1st Ave, north along Washington St. to 4th Ave, east on 4th Avenue to N. Main Street.
Work is expected to be substantially complete by 4 pm on November 4th
and is subject to weather. Advance warning, detour and other temporary traffic control devices will be posted near the affected area. Please use caution while traveling in this area and pay special attention to the advanced warning signage, road closed signage and other temporary traffic control devices within or in advance of the work zone. We appreciate your patience during this project.
