Police Chief Statement on RTHS Incident

UPDATE (2/21/18 at 4:12pm) — 

The male juveniles (ages 14 and 15) were charged with unlawful use of a weapon (class 2 felony) and disorderly conduct (class A misdemeanor). Both males were transported to the Kane County Juvenile Center.

The weapon was found to be a CO2 powered pistol.

 

On Wednesday, February 21st at 0929, the Rochelle Police Department received a call from a Rochelle Township High School administrator. The caller advised that a gun had been located in a locker. Upon arrival to the scene, officers met with school personnel and determined that the weapon was a BB gun. Two male juveniles were taken into custody. This incident remains under investigation, and an update is expected later today.

It should be noted that the school did go into a soft lockdown status while the incident was investigated on site, and the students were not in danger.
