The City of Rochelle is pleased to announce the promotion of Firefighter Zach Prewett to Lieutenant, filling the vacancy following the recent promotion of Dave Sawlsville to Fire Chief.

Lieutenant Prewett is a lifelong resident of the Rochelle area, having been raised in Steward. He holds a B.A. Degree in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University. At the age of 20, he began his career as a paid-on-call Firefighter with the Ogle-Lee Fire Protection District in Steward. In January of 2006 he was hired as a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic with the Rochelle Fire Department and has recently celebrated his tenth anniversary with the Department.

Regarding his new position, Lt. Prewett said, “I am honored to accept the promotion. I have a great respect for the department and all the firefighters who have dedicated themselves to its success.”

In his time with the Rochelle Fire Department, Lt. Prewett has specialized in fire inspections, working closely with the Building Inspector on pre-planning with local property owners. He also is the Department’s Public Education Officer arranging school tours, educational opportunities and community fairs/festivals. As a member of the City of Rochelle’s Employee Action Group, Lt. Prewett works closely with City staff to improve the workplace.

Lieutenant Prewett and his wife, Kara, reside just outside Rochelle with their five children.
