Rochelle School District 231 Breaks Ground on $20M Project

The Rochelle community continues to progress and invest in its future as Rochelle Elementary School District #231 Board of Education and the Rochelle community broke ground on Monday on a new, $20 million, Pre K – 5th grade, elementary school building. The new building is located on a 49 acre campus adjacent to Rochelle Twp High School which was opened in 2005. Jean Tess, President of the District 231 Elementary School Board, was on hand for the event and said “We want to thank the citizens of District 231 for supporting the referendum that made today possible. The board appreciates the community’s investment in the future of our students and community.” The construction of this new facility will replace the 100 year old Lincoln Elementary School building. The new school will accommodate 300 students in grades K- 5 and another 120 pre-school age children.

Todd Prusator, Superintendent of District 231, addressed the crowd that came to celebrate the groundbreaking and said:” We have a great group of dedicated people who worked tirelessly to see this project become a reality. We will soon have a state-of-art educational facility that will benefit families and students in our District for many years to come”.

The project is being funded through a local school referendum that was passed in April of 2011 along with a $12.6 million school construction grant from the State of Illinois Capital Development Board. Mayor Chet Olson stated during the groundbreaking ceremony that “The community of Rochelle continues to grow and prosper because of the commitment of its citizens to a quality education for their children and a vision for the future”. The new facility is estimated to be completed in 2013 and ready for the 2013-14 school year.
