The City of Rochelle is pleased to announce the re-opening of the School Avenue Bridge. The bridge officially opened for auto and pedestrian traffic today.
The $1.4million, locally funded project began in late May to replace the nearly fifty-year-old box culvert structure.
“Many see this bridge as simply a way to get from one side to another over the Kyte Creek. The fact is we all need transportation facilities, such as this bridge, that help us accomplish the things we do each and every day. This roadway project and the new bridge provide many more benefits for our community such as improved stormwater drainage and conveyance, watermain improvements, the removal and relocation of an unsightly above ground gas main just north of the bridge, improved and wider pedestrian routes, and last but not least a more user friendly intersection at Turkington Terrace. Countless hours, of so many, have gone into providing a safe, efficient and aesthetically pleasing facility to add another dimension of quality of life for our residents and this community for years to come,” stated City Engineer Sam Tesreau.
The City of Rochelle elected officials, staff and our contractors appreciate the patience of the school staff, families and residents in the School Avenue neighborhood.
