With spring and summer upon us and not to mention the recent Tornado, the Solicitors and Peddlers are coming in for permits.
Please note that by law Solicitors are required to have a City Permit and ID Badge with the City Logo. Even though a solicitor is registered with the City of Rochelle, we are not able to guarantee that they are selling a quality product or service.
Here’s some advice that should be taken very seriously.
• DO NOT let anyone in your home or even open the door unless you know them.
• If a solicitor visits your home without a City permit, simply turn them away and please call the Rochelle Police Department (815-562-2131) or City Clerk’s Office (815-561-2002) at once so they can be located and stopped.
• NEVER SIGN A CONTRACT until you have had time to check into the business. If the firm is legitimate, they will gladly return. If it has anything to do with construction/roof repair, etc. their credentials can be verified to see if they have a state license, insurance, and anything else required.
• If you are considering doing business with them, it is best that you personally get in touch with your insurance company for an inspection and estimate; do not rely on solicitor to do so.
• If they just leave a pamphlet in your door (which they do not need a permit for), it should include enough information so that you can first check into their business before calling or inviting them into your home.
• Solicitors are not allowed to visit homes with a “No Solicitors” sign. If they ignore it, they are breaking the law and can be fined.
• To obtain a “No Solicitors” sticker, visit City Hall at 420 North Sixth Street.
