Storm Update & Extra Brush Pickup 9/2

Storm Update & Extra Brush Pickup 9/2

In the early morning hours of August 30th, the City of Rochelle experienced stormy weather that resulted in leaves and branches down and several power outages.

The City of Rochelle Street Department will conduct an extra brush pickup on Friday September 2nd. Brush should be placed curbside in piles not exceeding 8 feet in length. Limbs larger than 6 to 8 inches in diameter should be in a separate pile cut for crews to safely handle. Brush should be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m.

The RMU Electric Division confirms that several storm-related outages took place during the storm. Crews were dispatched overnight and all power was restored at approximately 8:00am.

While City & Emergency Management staff is aware of rumors of tornadic activity, the National Weather Service has confirmed that was not the case. The northeast side of town did experience winds in the 30-40mph range that impacted tree branches.

Although there were no watches or warnings activated for this particular storm, residents are encouraged to utilize the FEMA Mobile App for accurate storm alerts.
