The City of Rochelle Engineering Office has recently fielded many complaints in regards to the increased train horns in the community.
Rochelle is a Quiet Zone meaning that a train’s horn will only sound if a locomotive engineer perceives danger on the tracks. While the number of horn sounds has decreased significantly since the ordinance was passed, we will still hear them occasionally. Currently, as maintenance is happening on the tracks, the horns are sounding more frequently to let the workers know the train is near. Flaggers are located at each crossing as work proceeds along. The project should be completed by the end of next week.
Should the horn noise not subside significantly as the crossing work is completed, the City of Rochelle may file a complaint with the Illinois Commerce Commission.
