City Engineer, Sam Tesreau, has announced that Washington Street, from 1st Avenue north to 2nd Avenue, will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday April 18th at 7 am. The closure is necessary to construct new supplementary safety measures for the Rochelle Railroad Quiet Zone project including concrete curb medians, storm sewer improvements and associated pavement removal and replacement. Martin and Company, the City of Rochelle’s contractor, will be performing the work.
There will be no access to or from 2nd Avenue, via Washington Street, for the duration of the project. However, 2nd Avenue and the intersection of Washington Street/2nd Avenue, will be accessible from Main Street for local traffic. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route and avoid the area if possible.
All other through traffic along Washington Street will be detoured as follows:
Southbound through traffic will be detoured from Washington Street, east along 2nd Ave, south along Main Street to 1st Ave, west on 1st Avenue to Washington Street.
Northbound through traffic will be detoured from Washington Street, east along 1st Ave, north along Main Street to 2nd Ave, west on 2nd Avenue to Washington Street.
Work is expected to be substantially complete by 4 pm on April 29th and is subject to weather. Advance warning, detour and other temporary traffic control devices will be posted near the affected area.
